Turrialba’s reputation as a world-class whitewater rafting center has been attracting visitors for years.  Experience the white water and beautiful scenery of the Reventazón and Pacuare rivers.  Visit the Turrialba Volcano - at the summit you will be able to see the Caribbean as well as the beautiful countryside including the volcanoes at Poas, Irazu and Barva. Also check out CATIE - which is the Centro Agronómico Tropical de Investigación y Enseñanza (Cener for Tropical Agronoy Research and Teaching).  Take a tour through the beautiful gardens by bike and see part of this 2,000 acre plantation where scientists research a wide variety of tropical plants such as coffee, cacao, bananas and pejibaye palms.  From Turrialba you can also visit the Historical Guayabo Monument, one of the largest pre-Colombian archeological sites in Costa Rica - a real national treasure.

Relax after a day full of adventure at Turrialba’s fine hotels, with beautifully appointed rooms and spacious suites, that offer an intimate location for your visit to Turrialba.  What else can you do in this lesser known part of Costa Rica?  Well, we will let you know after Expo Turrialba is held!

The Turrialba Chamber of Commerce (CATUR) has announced its second Turrialba Expo that seeks to attract over 150 local and international tour operating companies.  The event is scheduled to take place from June 19th through June 21st, 2009.

CATUR expects to follow in the success of its first Turrialba Expo by presenting the local tourism industry with the various services and attractions available in the region.  Since its first Turrialba Expo, the local tourism sector experienced a 15% increase in visitors to the region.

Among the area’s most visited natural attractions are the Turrialba Volcano National Park and the Pacuare River.  The Pacuare River is ranked among the top ten white water rafting rivers in the world where several operators in Turrialba offer professional and safe rafting expeditions.

The Turrialba Expo will also be including the Turrialba Community Rural Tourism Expo for the first time.  Community based rural tourism provides the region with an alternate source of income by presenting tourists with activities of their every day life.

These activities include the harvesting of sugar cane, coffee and macadamia which are abundant in the region.  These activities allow for the local people to become self sufficient and progress as a community.

Another important attraction in Turrialba is the Guayabo National Monument.  This national park was created in 1973 in order to protect the largest archeological finding in Costa Rica.  The Guayabo National Monument encompasses trails, bridges, working aqueducts and water tanks as well as home sites that date back to the Pre-Columbian era.
